LEGACY IN ACTION

Legacy in action is the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games social and cultural programme initiative of the Youth Charter, which builds on and takes forward the 2002 Commonwealth Citizenship in Action project. With ten communities nationally and ten communities internationally seeing the Youth Charter’s work delivered, Legacy in Action aims to deliver the experience realized to date through its unique Community Campus concept.

CONNECTING COMMUNITIES

THROUGH YOUNG PEOPLE

The Youth Charter’s Citizenship in Action programme was developed as part of the social and cultural legacy of the 2002 Commonwealth Games.  It is an umbrella initiative delivering the Youthwise programme to young people and communities locally and globally. It works to develop community cohesion and to empower young people to develop the capacity, leadership and skills to manage both their life chances and their communities.

Citizenship in Action recognises and reflects the global community acting locally with leadership and empowerment at the very heart of its aims and objectives. Related projects have a strong focus on education, health, social order and the environment. They are delivered using the social coach training programme.

ACCESS FOR ALL

Access for All is the Youth Charter campaign, which aims to provide the Youth Charter Youthwise Programme to schools and learning environments in both a formal and informal educational setting that need to be equipped and empowered through educational attainment, behavior and performance. Access for All aims to provide the Youthwise programmes through cultural activity with core learning in numeracy, literacy and wider curriculum subjects.

SIGN UP 4 YOUTH

The Sign Up 4 Youth Campaign is part of the ongoing lobbying efforts of the Youth Charter to highlight the need for a more coordinated approach to policy resources and commitment by Government.

THE SIGN UP 4 YOUTH MANIFESTO

The Sign Up 4 Youth Manifesto calls for:

- A Royal Commission for youth - this would demonstrate the Governments seriousness on the issues of youth needs at all levels of society.

- A Minister for Youth with a Ministry for Youth, Culture, Sport, Arts and Social Affairs. This would provide a truly effective department that would drive forward Government   policy initiatives as well as a seat around the cabinet table.

- A public youth appointment on all regional public bodies i.e. Regional Development Agencies, Cultural Boards, Sports Boards, local strategic partnerships etc. These appointments would ensure that a youth voice is contributing at the heart of the local/regional decision process.

- A National Youth Council representative of existing youth councils around the country. Similar to an all party select committee, this group would have the ability to meet, engage and represent youth interests with direct access to ministers responsible for youth policy and delivery.

- A Youth Task Force to be established. This would represent the key agencies and individuals currently at the forefront of youth provision and delivery in this country. The Task Force would report directly to No. 10, with Prime Ministerial / inter- ministerial responsibility forming part of the Prime Ministerial monthly briefings.
